"Join us in a victory job', 1943
Above is a WW2 recruitment poster depicting six women that represent different services during the war. They represent the WRAN, AWAS, WAAAF, AWLA, AAMWS and a munitions worker. This poster was designed to encourage women to join the services and work in the industries to help the war. The poster uses bright and eye-catching colours to draw the attention of the viewer and it is aimed at women during the Second World War. The six women in the poster are all smiling and look very happy to be in the position they hold, and this brings a positive vibe to the poster. Before the war, women were not allowed to participate in military services or work in the industry but as men disappeared into the war, women were recruited to many jobs which were previously considered to be only men’s jobs. The variety of jobs depicted in the poster implies that there is a job for every Australian woman to take up.
The poster was made in 1943 by artist Maurice Bramley, and was published by the Department of National Service. It is lithograph printed in colour on paper and the sheet measures 48.2 x 60.4 cm.
